1980
Gary Bashor BS, JD ’83 was appointed a superior court judge for Cowlitz County, Washington, in May 2011.
Thomas Brown JD was honored by the Oregon Daily Journal of Commerce with the Leadership in Law Award. Brown is a partner with Cosgrave Vergeer Kester in Portland.
1981
Gretchen Buehner JD was reelected to the Tigard City Council and became council president in January 2011.
Juan Lizama JD was appointed to serve on the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents. He will represent Saipan on the board through November 2013. Lizama, now retired, served as the associate judge of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands Superior Court from 1998 to 2008, and was a special judge at the CNMI Superior and Supreme Courts from 1996 to 1998. Kathleen McCann JD presented a CLE titled “The Seventh Nuts and Bolts Lecture: Starting and Sustaining a Law Practice” in Clark County. McCann is a sole practitioner in Vancouver, where she specializes in family law, adoption, and guardianship.

Kathryn Villa-Smith JD was appointed to the Multnomah County Circuit Court. Previously, she was a shareholder at the firm of Gevurtz, Menashe, Larson & Howe in Portland. Villa-Smith has practiced domestic relations law for more than 16 years. She has also worked as a deputy district attorney in Multnomah County. She serves on the board of the St. Andrew Legal Clinic and the Multnomah Bar Foundation.

Grant Frey BS attended the graduation of his son Grant Frey Jr. BA ’11 in May.
1984
Kay Abramowitz JD was elected to the Portland Opera’s board of directors. She is a partner with Ater Wynne and chair of its wealth preservation and family-owned business group.
1985
Gregory Baer BA was named Carthage College’s Distinguished Teacher of the Year at the Spring Honors Convocation.
1986
Nicholas Kraft BA graduated from Northern Arizona University with an MA in English-creative writing in December 2010. He is currently teaching an undergraduate fiction workshop and continues to run the Internet firm he started in Flagstaff, Arizona, in 1998.

Rick LeFaivre BA returned to school at Mount Angel Seminary after many years working as a retail manager for CompUSA and Office Depot. He is pursuing a master of divinity degree with the goal of becoming an ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Portland.
