People close to Pat Hibbard have often heard him begin a conversation by saying, “You know, I love this college.” Hibbard graduated from Lewis & Clark in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in business. After many busy years, he reconnected with the College during his Golden Reunion. He has devoted himself to the institution ever since.

Shortly after graduating from Lewis & Clark, Hibbard was drafted into the Army and served with the 3rd U.S. Infantry Division in Korea. The division was awarded both the United States and the Republic of Korea Presidential citations, and Hibbard himself was personally decorated with the Bronze Star Medal, the Korean Service Medal with two battle stars, and Belgium’s Meritorious Medal. After his time in the Army, he explored work in the insurance field before settling into a career in the advertising and graphics industry. He retired in 1997 from his position as president and CEO of two Portland printing companies.

Hibbard has served as a member of the Board of Alumni since 2003. In that year, he also began to work on enhancing the Albany Society. Under his guidance the society organized, established a board of directors, and grew from a group that met just one Sunday a year for breakfast to an organization of enthusiastic and energetic alumni who take on projects like Albany Week and the creation of an alumni house. Hibbard’s efforts have built a solid foundation for the volunteer alumni organization.

Hibbard and his wife, Gayle, were married in 1965 by Morgan S. Odell and have three children and four grandchildren. They live in Gresham, Oregon.
