As we near the tenth anniversary of the passage of the federal Crime Victims’ Rights Act, a law that we helped to draft, we celebrate the progress of a decade. To spotlight just three successes: 1) earlier this year, after eight years of litigation, and for the first time in history, the United States Supreme Court heard directly from a victim’s attorney about the victim’s rights in a criminal case; 2) the innovative Special Victims’ Counsel program which ensures sexual assault victims in the military have their own attorney to protect rights launched in 2013 and continues to grow; and 3) our 13th Annual Crime Victim Law Conference brought together nearly 250 victims’ rights advocates from 33 states, the District of Columbia, Australia, and Canada this past June.

We are proud of our work which helped to shape this progress, but there is more to be done. Every victim needs services, support, and protection of their rights!
