Did you know? Celebrating Black History Month with interesting facts

In honor of Black History Month, members of the Black Law Student Association gathered interesting facts about the people, events, and places that influenced history. This week’s fact was gathered by 3L student Anthony Blake.

In 1944, having skipped both the ninth and twelfth grades, Martin Luther King, Jr. entered Morehouse College at the age of 15. During his time at Morehouse, he placed second in the John L. Webb oratorical competition in both 1946 and 1948. He was president of the sociology club, as well as a member of the debate team, student council, glee club, and minister’s union. In 1948, he graduated from Morehouse with a BA degree in Sociology. He was awarded a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Crozer in 1951. In the same year, he began doctoral studies in Systematic Theology at Boston University. Dr. King received his PhD degree on June 5, 1955. He was 26.
