In an interview with the Portland Business Journal, alum David Hart ’00 describes the work he does investigating health care fraud. Hart is the Assistant Attorney-in-Charge of the Health Fraud Unit/Consumer Protection Section at the Oregon Department of Justice. For the past 15 years, Hart has led investigations into pharmaceutical marketing and promotion for both Oregon and multi-state coalitions of Attorneys General. Hart spent the prior 15 years as a physical therapist working in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices and home health agencies before attending Lewis & Clark Law School. He says he was tired of doing physical therapy and wanted instead to be an advocate for patients. It was his wife who encouraged him to go to law school, and so he did, doing PT work on the weekends.
