Partnering to Protect Victims of Trafficking

In 2014, we were heard about a case in which child-sex trafficking victims filed a civil action against Backpage.com and related defendants alleging that defendants caused the victims to suffer damages by knowingly promoting online and consipiring with commercial sex traffickers to facilitate child sex trafficking. Since that time we have filed amicus briefs in multiple jurisdictions. In September of 2016, we were involved in two amicus filings urging the United States Supreme Court to hear the case. In the filings we argued that Backpage’s position that it is immune from civil suit under the Commercial Decency Act is a misinterpretation of the law and that the federal laws designed to protect trafficking victims, particularly child-victims, must prevail.
