America’s Demons and Better Angels, by Professor Ozan Varol

After Lewis & Clark law professor Ozan Varol became a U.S. citizen two weeks ago, he sat down to write a few thoughts in his journal about his path to citizenship. Those thoughts turned into an article titled “America’s Demons and Better Angels”, a shortened version of which was published in TIME.

After Lewis & Clark law professor Ozan Varol became a U.S. citizen two weeks ago, he sat down to write a few thoughts in his journal about his path to citizenship. Those thoughts turned into an article titled “America’s Demons and Better Angels”, a shortened version of which was published in TIME with the title “I’m a Muslim Immigrant and I Have Faith in America”. “The political future of America may look grim,” says Varol, “but this piece should deliver some hope.”

Varol immigrated to the U.S. from his home country of Turkey at the age of 17 to study astro physics at Cornell University. He has gone from rocket scientist to author to law professor teaching constitutional law. In his spare time, he maintains a blog in which he shares posts on politics, books, music, and more.
