Congratulations to Lewis & Clark alum, Patricia McGuire ’95 on her appointment to the Multnomah County Circuit Court bench. Governor Kate Brown’s announcement of the appointment noted that she will be assigned to the court’s Family Department.
“Pat McGuire will enrich Multnomah County’s family bench with intellectual rigor and empathy for litigants who appear in her courtroom,” Governor Brown said. “She will treat the most sensitive and important cases – those involving children – with care, thoughtfulness, and compassion.”
Ms. McGuire is an attorney in private practice specializing in family law. She began her career doing complex civil litigation at the national law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, where she rose to be partner and a member of the firm’s executive committee. In 2007, she formed a small private practice focused on family law. She has served on the board of Saint Andrews Legal Clinic, as a volunteer for Legal Aid Services of Oregon, and as a coach for Grant High School’s “We the People” constitution team. Ms. McGuire grew up in Portland, attended Oregon State University for college, and received a law degree at Lewis & Clark Law School.
Ms. McGuire is the second African American lawyer that Governor Brown has appointed to the bench, doubling the number of African American judges in Oregon courts.
Ms. McGuire will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Diana I. Stuart.
