Natasha Digges, a current student in the in Elementary Education program, has just been named the Oregon School Personnel Association 2017 Scholarship recipient. This scholarship is given to an exemplary student who is in their final year of education with hopes that the recipient will enter the ranks of Oregon educators

Lewis & Clark’s commitment to social justice spoke to Natasha’s motivations to becoming an educator. Natasha hopes to create a classroom in which she empowers her students to explore themselves wholly and pursue their passions fully.  She will be student teaching in David Douglas School District and will be graduating in the summer of 2018.

Through her experience in classes and her work with 4th graders, Natasha was inspired to volunteer.  She created an art program for youth currently in detention at Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center. Through her program, Natasha works with youth to explore all forms of art. Natasha is continuing the program while attending Lewis & Clark, and hopes to expand and create a nonprofit in the near future.
