Become a CALS Ambassador: Apply Now!

Our Global Ambassador Program empowers and supports our advanced degree alumni. The application window for our third round is now open!

We are pleased to announce a new application window for our Global Ambassador Program (GAP). Applications due by May 1, 2023.

The GAP empowers and supports our talented advanced degree alumni of the Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS), both U.S. and international, as they cultivate animal law education and advocacy through projects they design and carry out during their GAP year. Those who are selected as CALS Ambassadors under the GAP will receive a grant of up to $5,000 to support their proposed project. Grants are provided by CALS through donor support.

The GAP was launched in 2020 and has supported 10 alumni to date. Previous CALS Ambassadors have chosen a rich variety of animal law projects to focus on during their GAP year, including: outreach to raise awareness about farmed animal protection, developing and teaching new animal law courses, creating webinars to share global animal law developments, preparing compendiums of animal law, founding new nonprofit organizations, implementing innovative approaches to combating animal cruelty, and more. Read more about how our first round and second round awardees used their GAP grant to advance the interests of animals.

This third round of the GAP again calls for proposals of all varieties, but will give priority to projects aimed at advancing animal law education through newly developed courses at institutions where animal law is not regularly offered. To qualify, applicants must be a Lewis & Clark Law School Animal Law LLM or MSL alumni by June 1, 2023 (Animal Law LLM or MSL students who will graduate in Spring ’23 are eligible).

Applications are due May 1, 2023. Those interested can apply here. Please see the application for additional details and instructions. CALS Ambassadors for this third round will serve from July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024.

The Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS) was founded in 2008 with a mission to educate the next generation of animal law advocates and advance animal protection through the law. CALS’ Alumni-in-Action from over 20 countries are making a difference for animals around the world. CALS is a nonprofit organization funded through donations and grants.
