12 Common Rights for Victims

Tens of thousands of laws afford rights to victims.  Together these rights secure for victims the “4 P’s”:  privacy, protection, participation, and property recovery.  Among the common rights we fight for are a victim’s right to:

  1. Due Process, Fairness, Dignity, Respect, and Privacy
  2. Notice
  3. Be Present
  4. Be Heard
  5. Protection
  6. Restitution
  7. Proceedings Free from Unreasonable Delay
  8. Confer
  9. Standing and Remedies
  10. A Copy of Records (e.g., Presentence Report, Transcripts)
  11. Information and Referral
  12. Compensation
