Scott Kerin JD ’96, an assistant U.S. attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oregon, was recently awarded the U.S. Department of Justice’s Assistant Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service for his role as one of the prosecutors in the U.S. v. Steven Pinto case. Following extensive pretrial litigation and a five-week trial in Fargo, North Dakota, a jury convicted the defendant for running a large criminal enterprise involved in the unlawful manufacture and distribution of hundreds of thousands of counterfeit pills manufactured with fentanyl.

Scott Kerin JD ’96, an assistant U.S. attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oregon, was recently awarded the U.S. Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service for his work as cocounsel in prosecuting an international fentanyl distribution ring that operated in China, Canada, and the United States. The case has been described as the widest-ranging fentanyl investigation in history and resulted in the identification, indictment, and conviction of more than 30 individuals. It also involved the first indictment of a Chinese national manufacturer and distributor of fentanyl. Kerin is currently serving a temporary detail at the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, Romania, where he is teaching prosecutors and law enforcement agents in Eastern Europe how to investigate and prosecute cybercrimes and intellectual property crimes.

Scott M. Kerin JD ’96, an assistant U.S. attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Portland, received the Major Campaign and Strategic Planning Award from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy for prosecuting members of an international criminal organization that was distributing fentanyl throughout the United States. Earlier in 2018, Kerin received the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Administrator’s Award, an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Achievement Award, and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Outstanding Cooperative Effort Award.
