Steven Bowen Tubbs

Steven Bowen Tubbs JD ’75 died on March 18, 2021. He was 74.

Steve was born in Chicago to Donald and Maxine Tubbs on November 22, 1946. He met his wife of over 50 years, Linda Noble, at the University of Washington. After graduating, they moved to Portland

Steve began his law career with the Clark County (Washington) Prosecutor’s office before moving into private practice in Vancouver. He continued to practice well into his 60s.

Steve strongly believed in giving back to his community. He served as president of the Westside Soccer Club, the Hudson’s Bay High School Booster Club, the Clark County Bar Association, and the Vancouver Bridge Club. He sat on the Washington State Bar Association’s Board of Governors. Steve was also responsible for helping create the “before and after school program” and the “summer program” through the Vancouver School District and Vancouver Parks and Recreation Department, which has given a safe place to thousands of school children since 1988.

Steve enjoyed playing bridge, hiking, and camping. He became a master gardener and a docent for the Japanese Gardens in Portland. He learned to fly, loved cars, and traveled his entire life, starting at a young age when he hitchhiked across Europe on $5 a day. He loved the arts, including theatre and writing, and published a book, Pembral Forgets, shortly before his death. Most of all, Steve loved his family, whom he took on endless adventures and showered with laughter, guidance, and love.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tallan, and sister Pamela. He is survived by his wife, Linda; brother Tim; daughter Corianne; and grandchildren Marli and Isaiah Rittierodt.
