Mark E. Brody JD ’96 passed away in 2009 from kidney disease. He was 44.

Mark courageously faced the same hereditary kidney disorder that claimed the lives of his mother and most of her siblings. At least nine other relatives survive Mark only by virtue of receiving successful kidney transplants. Mark himself suffered kidney failure in his early twenties. Although he received a kidney donation from his dad, his body rejected the transplant. At the time of his death, Mark was the longest-living hemodialysis patient in Alaska.

Mark accomplished much in his short life, in spite of his illness. He graduated from the University of Alaska in Anchorage with an accounting degree. Although he passed the Alaska Bar exam on his first attempt, his health precluded him from his dream of practicing law.
