John Travis Krallman

John Travis Krallman JD ’11 died October 29, 2021, in Silver Springs, Maryland. He was 39.

Known as Travis to his family, he was born January 9, 1982, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to John D. and Dianne Krallman. John was a gifted and focused student. A National Merit scholar, he chose to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University—better known as Virginia Tech. John decided during his first semester that he really didn’t want to be a chemical engineer, so he focused instead on his passion, the environment. After graduation, he worked as an environmental engineer for three years with UBS, learning about clean air and the Clean Air Act.

John had long planned to become an environmental lawyer. During his second year of law school, he was champion in the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition. He was runner-up in his third year. John interned for a year in the Boston office of the EPA before returning to Portland as counsel for Neighbors for Clean Air. He loved his job and the people he worked with, and would have stayed but his dream job called. John became an attorney in the EPA’s Air and Radiation Law Office, Office of General Counsel, in Washington, D.C., where he worked until his death. He was not only a gifted attorney, combining his technical background with an encyclopedic knowledge of the Clean Air Act, but also a great mentor, team player, and friend to all that knew him. He was also a beloved “uncle” to his second cousins, friend and mentor to his brother, and model son.  

John was predeceased by his grandparents, Alvah and Thelma Hylton and John W. and Edith Krallman. He is survived by his parents; brother Kevin; aunts and uncles Ken, Denise, Dean, Sid, Sherry, Dan, and Elaine; and cousins Samantha, Arielle, Gabrielle, Preston, Sara, Ana, Grace, Shana, Liam, Kelli, James, Keith, Paul, Jade, Lilly, Kaylee, David, and Andrew.
