Assistant Director of Career Services/Career Adviser

Gantenbein 033, MSC: 51

Barbara S Fishleder serves as the assistant director of career services and as a career adviser. She assists students, employers, alumni, and donors. She is committed to connecting law students and graduates with employment and professional growth opportunities, assisting alumni with their continued career development, and helping donors make a public service impact by contributing to the Lezak Social Justice Fellowship, the Public Interest Law Project, or Lewis & Clark’s Loan Repayment Assistance Program.

Along with the rest of the Career Services team, Barbara collaborates with public and private employers to create meaningful career opportunities for students and alumni, counsels and coaches students individually on career paths, arranges networking opportunities for students, and offers lifetime career advising to alumni. In addition, she connects donors to our giving team to discuss how we can best meet their gifting objectives.

Barbara’s legal experience spans both public and private practice, including civil litigation, business transactions, estate planning, workers’ compensation, and family law. After many years in practice, she shifted her career focus to working at the Oregon State Bar Professional Liability Fund (PLF) and the Oregon Attorney Assistance Program (OAAP), where she helped Oregon lawyers and law students improve their careers and maintain their well-being. She also served as a guest speaker in many law school classes, collaborated with Lewis & Clark Student Affairs to provide OAAP counseling services to law students, and participated with Lewis & Clark faculty in the development of practice management-related courses. She received her JD from University of Illinois Chicago, and her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan.

In addition to thoroughly enjoying helping people navigate their career paths, Barbara also works as an ASPIRE volunteer assisting high school students with their educational choices and college essays, relishes time with her husband and two sons, treks around the globe with family and friends, and works on improving her French.
