Summary:

After a patient at the Oregon State Hospital, which provided court-ordered psychiatric care, died of a fentanyl overdose, the hospital suspended visits to patients. But, argues Lewis & Clark Professor Aliza Kaplan, although drugs coming into the facility is a problem, any change affecting all patients should be short and reasonable.  “Anything that is long-term that affects people’s mental health, rehabilitation, connection to the outside world and their loved ones is just so damaging,” Kaplan said.
