Lewis & Clark Law School Animal Legal Defense Fund

Ellie Nicoletta

Public Relations Chair

Ellie is a 2L at Lewis & Clark Law. She is excited for the new school year, and meeting all the new L&C ALDF members.

Ellie studied philosophy at Western Washington University in Bellingham, where she spent her time protesting animal cruelty and participating in Animal Rights outreach.

Before moving to Seattle, Ellie was raised on a farm on Whidbey Island, WA. Her family raised her vegetarian and taught her compassion for all creatures. Her grandpa, who was a worker’s rights attorney, and her mom, an animal activist, inspired her to go to law school. She hopes to use her legal education to propel animal rights.

Besides animal law, Ellie’s interests are prisoner’s rights and criminal justice reform. This summer, she volunteered at the Oregon State Penitentiary. In addition, she was a legal research assistant for Professor Kathy Hessler and ALDF’s David Rosengard, studying arguments surrounding nonhuman legal personhood.

When not at home cuddling with her 3-legged, 12 year old Chihuahua, Eevee (L&C’s 2019 Cutest Companion Winner), Ellie likes going to the movies, learning how to cook, and exploring Portland’s numerous vegan restaurants and bars with her friends.
