The Small Business Legal Clinic (SBLC) has been working to educate entrepreneurs on patents to protect their unique products as well as filing patent applications for clients.

CJ Fuenzalida, a second-year law student at Lewis & Clark Law School, is one of 30 law students selected for the national fellowship from the Hispanic Bar National Association’s Intellectual Property Law Institute (IPLI). Co-sponsored by Microsoft, the highly competitive fellowship funds students’ participation in IPLI’s IP Law immersion program.

Co-sponsored by the Intellectual Property Section of the Oregon State Bar, the Business Law Fall Forum, “The Procedure of IP,” will take place from 8:30am to 6pm on Friday, September 28 at the Lewis & Clark Law School campus.

At the annual meeting of the American Society for Legal History in Washington DC, Tomás Gómez-Arostegui received the 2015 Sutherland Prize for his article, Copyright at Common Law in 1774, 47 Conn. L. Rev. (2014).

NYT publishes Anna Laakmann’s opinion on data sharing of genomic information

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued an important copyright ruling recently holding that before a copyright owner sends a “takedown” notice of something posted on the internet, the copyright owner must consider the fair use rights of an individual who posted it. In the opinion, the court cited an article written by Intellectual Property Law Professor Lydia Loren.

Lewis & Clark Law School hosted a visit by William (Bill) Griffin, deputy director of the Office of Enrollment and Discipline, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), on March 5, 2015. The visit was in conjunction with the Small Business Legal Clinic’s participation in the USPTO Law School Clinic Certification Program.

Lewis & Clark Law School will host its first Food Law conference on Friday, March 13, 2015. This conference is an opportunity to integrate the Animal Law, Business Law and Environmental Law programs. Eat, Pray, Law: A Food Forum, will offer students, faculty and regional food businesses a chance to experience the exciting intersection of food and law. We will explore issues ranging from labeling and transparency to sustainability, urban agriculture, and food justice.

The American Law Institute announced the election of 26 new members this month. Lewis & Clark’s Lydia Loren, the Robert E. Jones Professor of Advocacy and Ethics, is among them.

Professor Anna Laakmann traveled to UC Irvine School of Law to join a panel of national scholars who discussed the importance of the Myriad decision, and what it means for science, for industry, and for the patent system.

The Intellectual Property Section of the Oregon State Bar is pleased to be offering an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a single Oregon law school student who can evidence a clear interest in and aptitude for intellectual property.
