Lewis & Clark Law School Animal Legal Defense Fund

Our Mission: Helping Animals through the Law

As a student chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund, SALDF is devoted to enhancing the welfare and legal status of all nonhuman animals. Our primary goal is to educate ourselves and others concerning the issues and laws that affect animals and help to influence positive change.

What We Do

We seek to provide a forum for education, advocacy, and scholarship, aiming to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system, and striving to raise the profile of the field of animal law.

We coordinate opportunities for animal law pro bono work, community service, and activism, and we hold many informative and celebratory events throughout the year that promote critical thinking about animals’ various relationship to humans and exploration of our legal duties to the animals in those relationships.  Additionally, we play in integral role in planning and hosting the annual Animal Law Conference, the nation’s first and longest-running conference dedicated to animal law.
