  • 5:00pm - 6:30pm: Criminal Justice Up Close. From Jailhouse Lawyer to Law Student: The Story of Calvin Duncan
    At age 19, Calvin Duncan was wrongfully convicted of murder. After serving over 28 years in Angola prison for a crime he did not commit, he was released in 2011. Since his release, he has been awarded a Soros Justice Fellowship to vindicate the rights of incarcerated people and is the program director of The Light of Justice Program, which helps incarcerated people gain access to the courts.

  • 11:00am: Help Us Fill Backpacks With Healthy Meals For Children
    As part of our celebration of President Wiewel’s inauguration, community members are invited to help fill 100 backpacks with healthy meals for students experiencing food insecurity to take home over the weekend when school meals are not available.

  • 8:30am - 6:00pm: Free Speech Symposium: Questioning the Marketplace of Ideas

    How does “free speech” operate on a private, liberal arts campus? Where are the legal boundaries? How do we make sense of the impact of speech on others, especially in relation to power, equity, and privilege? Where are the tensions between speech and community?

    This symposium seeks to explore these questions and more as we situate them in the context of Lewis & Clark College. Join us for a day of discussion and dialogue with students, staff, and faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences, Graduate School of Education and Counseling, Law School, and Common Services.
