Gilman International Scholarship Program
The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship offers awards for study abroad for undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship offers awards for study abroad for undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
Scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded for undergraduates to study or intern abroad. Students studying designated languages may be considered for a supplemental Critical Need Language Award of up to $3000. Students pursuing STEM research abroad may be eligible for an additional $1000 stipend.
Additionally, Gilman scholars are also eligible for 12 months of noncompetitive eligibility (NCE) hiring status within the federal government, with the possibility of extensions if certain criteria are met.
Eligibility: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, in good academic standing, and receiving a federal Pell Grant. Must be in the process of applying to or already accepted to an overseas program in an eligible country.
Deadline: For study abroad Spring 2025: October 10, 2024, at 11:59 PST. For study abroad Summer 2025, Fall 2025 or Academic Year 2025-26: March 6, 2024, at 11:59 PST.
