Academic Success with Watzek Library
Guest Columnist: Elaine Hirsch, Associate Director of Watzek Library

Hello students!
As we head into the second half of the fall, research papers and projects are likely looming larger on your horizon. While this can be stressful, please know that friendly and helpful academic support and resources are available and FREE for you to use! This includes SAAB Tutoring, the Symbolic and Quantitative Reasoning Center (SQRC), the Interactive Learning Center for world language assistance, and one of my favorite places (not surprisingly!) on campus, Watzek Library!
Watzek librarians are eager to discuss and help you with your research. You can easily schedule an appointment to meet one-on-one with a librarian at any step in your process, from developing a successful research question, to locating articles and data sets to inform your understanding of a topic. You can choose to meet in person or virtually, whichever works best for you and your schedule. Librarians have specialized knowledge of the subjects they work with—and, no less importantly, care about helping you get where you need to go.
Also located in the library are the Writing Center and Data Cafe. The Writing Center offers drop-in hours Sunday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Peer tutors can ease writing anxiety, develop an actionable plan for a paper, and help you find your writer’s voice. The Data Cafe offers drop-in peer tutoring for R coding between 4 and 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday and between 8 and 9 PM Sunday through Thursday.
We look forward to seeing you in Watzek!
