First-Generation Connections Program Interest Form
The Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement: First-Generation Connections Program - invites you to get involved!

IME’s First-Generation* Connections Program (formerly the First-Generation Mentorship Program) aims to bridge generational gaps by supporting first-generation college students through meaningful connections with staff, faculty, and alumni. By sharing insider knowledge about industries, higher education, and navigating complex social systems, participants gain valuable insight into life at L&C and beyond.
The program intentionally connects first-generation students — or any student who believes they would benefit — with individuals from the L&C community who are interested in offering guidance, perspective, and support. While these connections may naturally develop into mentorships, mentorship is not an expectation of the program.
How it will work:
Students who sign up will share what they hope to gain from the program (for example: career exploration, graduate or law school insight, navigating financial challenges, or general support). Based on these interests, IME will match students with individuals best positioned to support their goals.
Join our network of support:
We are seeking to expand our network of L&C faculty, staff, and alumni who are open to being connected to students. If you are interested in supporting this community, please complete this Interest Form. The more you share, the better we can match students with meaningful connections.
Other ways to get involved
First-Generation Table Talks are a great way to connect with our First-Generation community! These are monthly scheduled times where students, faculty, staff, and alumni come together to discuss “adulting 101” topics that range from current needs to “life after L&C” topics. Our next Table Talk will be on February 17th. If you are interested, please follow this link for more information. All are welcome!
*Being “First-Generation”
Like any identity, identifying a clear definition is always challenging, as each individual is complex and unique. Defining a first-generation student is no different and can be complicated. IME welcomes any student who believes they would benefit from our First-Generation programs to participate. We encourage you to reach out to IME if you have questions about being first-generation and/or if you would like to share more about your experience!
