Katherine FitzGibbon, professor of Music and director of Choral Activities, is the producer and artistic director of Safe Harbor, the newest album from the Portland-based professional vocal ensemble, Resonance Ensemble.

Released on January 30, 2026, Safe Harbor is a double album featuring 12 commissioned world-premiere choral works that focus on themes of sanctuary, resilience, and community, according to the group’s blog and Aerocade Music.

Safe Harbor is an invitation to reflect on our histories and to reimagine a world where all people are safe, connected, nourished, and fulfilled,” FitzGibbon said. “These 12 works are personal and timely gifts to the choral repertoire.”

The album unfolds in two parts:

  • REflect invites listeners to explore our histories—moments that shape us, stories that deserve to be heard, and the challenges we carry forward.
  • REimagine envisions a future of possibility, where communities lift each other, voices once unheard are honored, and music inspires action and connection.

Katherine FitzGibbon, professor of Music and director of Choral Activities, is the producer and artistic director of Safe Harbor.Safe Harbor is more than an album—it is lived experiences transformed into sound, offering a musical space to pause, connect, and reimagine what a world built on care and community can be,” FitzGibbon said.

The album includes work from artists such as Damien Geter, Jasmine Barnes, Kenji Bunch, and Joe Kye. Damien Geter’s arrangement of “There’s a Man Goin’ Round Takin’ Names” is featured, with Geter noting it reflects “the harsh realities of our country” and systemic racism. The album also includes narration from S. Renee Mitchell and A. Mimi Sei.

The ensemble is known for using its music as social commentary and often praised for its mission-driven art and exceptional artistry.

The Safe Harbor album is available through Aerocade Music on major streaming platforms, including Bandcamp, Apple Music, and Spotify, or for purchase as a double CD at resonancechoral.org.
