Statistics show that gambling thrives in silence–64% of people experiencing problems with gambling have never told anyone. March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month, and the Lewis & Clark problem gambling services team, located in the Lewis & Clark Community Counseling Center on Barbur Boulevard, are working to change that. Throughout the month, they will be sharing short, supportive messages every day about problem gambling and recovery.

Each message includes:

  • Compelling facts about problem gambling
  • Light, practical skills
  • Local Oregon resources
  • Uplifting material about recovery

Why This Matters

According to Oregon’s 2024 gambling survey, an estimated 640,000 Oregonians (15% of our state’s population) experience either moderate or high-risk gambling behaviors. In 2025 the Oregon Lottery Sports Betting app handled $912,515,000 in bets. Yet problem gambling remains significantly under-recognized in clinical settings. Many individuals struggling with gambling don’t disclose it unless directly asked, and many providers aren’t sure how to start that conversation.
