Summer Courses—Online, or In Person?

Courses are available in-person and online. This means even if you are traveling, at home, or away for an internship, you have a chance to participate in summer learning.

Unlike during the year, the debate rages in the summer over which is best, online or in-person instruction. Here is what we’ve heard:

Online

“Taking courses online is so convenient! I sign on to my computer from Charleston, South Carolina, during my lunch break (even though the course starts at 9 a.m. at L&C—thank goodness for the time difference!)—participate in a seminar, listen to a lecture, and then sign off and go back to my internship. I’m going to be able to complete my Health Studies Minor with the two courses I’m taking online this summer, and I’m still able to travel and work!”

In-person

“There is nothing like hanging out with the faculty in the summer—they’re sooooo much chattier! Our two hour seminar sometimes meets outside, and often has snacks! I’m learning tons and am finishing my GE requirements, while watching the blossoms change in Portland and living with my friends in an (admittedly somewhat crowded) apartment in Sellwood! And I get ice cream at the local food carts to reward myself for my hard work on Fridays!”
