Paschal’s Professional Ensemble Releases Album Showcasing Modern Percussion
Brett EE Paschal, assistant professor with term of music, and director of bands and percussion, drumset, mallets, has released a new album with his professional percussion ensemble Portland Percussion Group. The album Patterns & Form showcases the technical mastery of the group through a diverse collection of modern percussion works. The album features the music of Alejandro Viñao, Mendel Lee, and Daniel Webbon.
Since 2011, Portland Percussion Group has become a mainstay in Portland’s contemporary music scene, working with composers to create more than 60 new works for percussion quartet. In addition to Paschal, Portland Percussion Group members include Garrett Arney, Jonathan Brown, Brian Gardiner, Sijia Huang, Paul Owen, Terry Longshore, and Christopher Whyte. Their appearances include the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, GAIDA Festival (Lithuania), nienteForte Contemporary Music Festival, the Northwest Percussion Festival, the National Association of Composers National Conference, and collaborations with Resonance Ensemble and pianists DUO Stephanie and Saar.
At Lewis & Clark, Paschal directs the Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble, and teaches percussion lessons for drum set, Jazz drum set, mallet percussion, various hand drums, and all orchestral percussion.
