Smoother Paths, Smarter Drainage

Focus Areas: Road surrounding Copeland and the Huddleston-Elysium intersection

Construction Starts: Summer 2026

Anticipated Completion: 5/31/2027

Renewing pavement and stormwater flow where campus moves most

Two high-traffic edges of campus are getting a practical refresh designed to make daily movement safer, smoother, and more resilient in wet weather.

This project focuses on repairing and resurfacing worn asphalt, improving storm drainage, and continuing curb and pothole repairs in key circulation zones around Copeland Hall, along the corridor from Huddleston to the Elysium Street intersection, and a variety of smaller locations across campus.

What’s Improving?

  • Asphalt repair and resurfacing in deteriorated areas around Copeland Hall and the Huddleston–Elysium corridor
  • Storm drainage system improvements to better capture and direct water away from walking and driving paths
  • Ongoing curb and pothole repairs to maintain safe, even surfaces for pedestrians and vehicles

Why This Matters

Over time, weather, tree roots, and daily traffic take a toll on paved surfaces. Cracks form. Water pools. Edges crumble. This work tackles those issues at the source.

  • Prevents water damage by improving how stormwater moves through the area
  • Creates safer walking and driving surfaces with fewer trip hazards and smoother pavement
  • Extends the life of campus infrastructure through proactive repairs
  • Improves accessibility along heavily used campus routes

What You’ll Notice

As this work wraps up, getting around these parts of campus will simply feel better:

Smoother walking paths
More even driving surfaces
Less standing water after heavy rain

These aren’t flashy upgrades—but they make a big difference in how campus functions every day, especially during the rainy season.

We’ll share progress as these well-traveled routes are refreshed to keep campus moving safely and efficiently.
