Preserving Corbett’s Roof

Focus Areas: Corbett House

Construction Starts: 6/1/2026

Anticipated Completion: 5/31/2027

Targeted slate roof repairs to prevent future water intrusion

Careful, high-skill work is planned overhead at Corbett House to protect one of campus’s distinctive architectural features while preventing future water damage.

The slate tile roof at Corbett has served the building well for decades, but five areas have been identified that now require repair. As the roof ages—and as interior renovations increase the value of what’s being protected below—the risk and potential impact of water intrusion grows.

What’s Changing?

  • Targeted repairs to five identified areas of the slate tile roof
  • Specialized access and repair methods suited to the unique challenges of slate roofing

Why This Matters

Slate roofs are durable and beautiful, but they require careful maintenance from qualified craftsperson. Access limitations and the nature of the material make these repairs more complex than typical roofing work—but addressing these areas now prevents much larger issues later.

This work will:

  • Reduce the risk of future leaks and water intrusion
  • Protect recent interior improvements and finishes
  • Preserve the integrity of the historic roof system
  • Prevent costly consequential property damage

What You’ll Notice

This work will be subtle and precise, focused only where needed:

The historic appearance of the slate roof remains unchanged
Greater protection from seasonal weather
Proactive care that extends the life of the roof

By investing in these targeted repairs now, Corbett’s roof continues to do what it has always done best—quietly protecting everything beneath it.
