Favorite spot on campus: I love the grassy hill behind the Corbett House. It’s a beautiful property with a rich history – the Olmsted Brothers, who landscaped the property, also worked on many of Spokane’s parks. Plus, last time I walked by there were plenty of bees pollinating some clover. (Save the bees!)
Little-known fact about me: I love foxes! When I studied abroad in London my junior year I did a research project on the history and treatment of the red fox, with a focus on their portrayal in the media. For the project I had the opportunity to visit a fox rescue hospital outside of London and even pick up a fox. They’re much lighter than you would expect.
Piece of advice for students in the college search process: Expand your college list beyond what your family, friends, teachers, or counselors suggest. Find schools that you’ve either never heard of or might not expect to like, and then visit them to calibrate yourself for what you really want in a college!
Favorite place to spend time in Portland: I enjoy walking and biking along Portland’s many trails, especially in the southwest area. You certainly can’t go wrong with a state park only a five minute walk from campus! (Tryon Creek, in case you were wondering. “Tryon” that for size!)
If I was stranded on a desert island, I would want these three things: Let’s go with 1) water, 2) a copy of Shakespeare’s First Folio, and 3) another stranded person - although, I hope that person was already there before I got there…(two-person Shakespeare performances, anyone?)
If I didn’t work in Admissions, I would be: Maybe teaching theatre at the high school level, or doing nonprofit mental health work in the community!
