Jessup Update: Regional Round, Day 1

The L&C Jessup team had a great first day of competition at the regional round held in Washington DC.  Stay tuned for more updates from the team!

The Lewis & Clark Jessup International Moot Court team traveled to Washington DC this weekend for the regional round of competition.  Because Lewis & Clark Law School hosts the Northwest regional, our team must travel to compete in the tough Mid-Atlantic regional.

Thursday was a long day of travel.  Upon arrival, the team had orientation and learned that they will face Pennsylvania State, University of Pennsylvania, Liberty University, and University of Pittsburgh in the preliminary rounds.

Friday morning the two team members arguing for the Applicants started off against Penn State (coincidentally the same match-up our team started off with last year). It was a very tough round, and both sides were working out some beginning jitters, but everyone put in a solid performance.

Friday afternoon, the team’s Respondents faced off against Liberty University. It was a fierce contest, both sides being grilled by the bench and demonstrating superior knowledge of the law.

We will not know the results for these rounds until Saturday afternoon, after the last two preliminary rounds. Hopefully the team will come out with two wins, but both could go either way.

The schedule for the rest of the weekend is:
Second set of preliminary rounds on Saturday, with Applicants arguing in the morning, and Respondents arguing at noon.

If the team makes the cut to top 8, they will face Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon, followed by Semifinals on Sunday Morning.  The championship round of the regional competition will be held Sunday at noon.

Send good vibrations to our L&C team – Joe Terrenzio, Dan Rowan, Rohit Kapuria, Emerson Lenon, David Susens, and coach Dagmar Butte!
