Lewis & Clark’s long-time Jessup International Moot Court Coach, Dagmar Butte, ’91 was recently elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Law Students Association (ILSA) after serving as a member of the Board since 2001. ILSA is a nonprofit association of students and lawyers dedicated to the promotion of international law. ILSA provides students with opportunities to study, research, and network in the international legal arena and has member chapters in most U.S. law schools as well as several other countries. The organization’s activities include co-sponsorship of academic conferences such as International Law Weekend held every October in New York City, publications, managing the global coordination of international law student organizations, and administering the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
Dagmar’s goal for her tenure is to further advance what she sees as the core of ILSA’s mission statement, namely to encourage communication among students and lawyers from different parts of the world in an effort to promote international understanding and cooperation in general, and the advancement of legal education in particular. “ILSA is uniquely situated as a result of its globally distributed and deeply committed volunteer base to spread the message of international cooperation and understanding among those best equipped to hear and absorb it – young future lawyers whose opinions and attitudes are not yet set in stone.”
Law Communications is located in room 304 of Legal Research Center (LRC) on the law Campus.
