Lecture Tour of South Africa by L&C Law Professor

Elaine Sutherland, who shares an appointment with Lewis & Clark Law School and Stirling College of Law in Scotland gives lecture tour in South Africa

Professor Elaine E. Sutherland, who is a professor at both Lewis & Clark Law School and The Stirling Law School in Scotland, UK, recently completed a lecture tour in South Africa. While on sabbatical leave for the spring 2012 semester, Professor Sutherland visited a number of law schools in South Africa, including UNISA and at the Universities of Cape Town, Pretoria and Stellenbosch. Drawing on the findings from her latest book, The Future of Child and Family Law, International Predictions, (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, forthcoming August 2012), she presented a number of papers, including “Global Challenges in Child and Family Law” and “Progress on Children’s Rights: Global Comparisons.”

She also visited the University of Pretoria’s Centre for Child Law, renowned for pursuing “impact litigation” designed to make a difference to the lives of children across South Africa. In addition, she met with colleagues, some of whom she has worked with in the past, to discuss developments in the field and to explore future collaboration.
