Environmental law lecture by Professor Rodgers, Mar. 12

Our annual Higgins visitor, Professor Bill Rodgers of UW, has arrived to begin his two week visit with us.  He is giving a lecture next Tuesday evening, March 12, 5:30 p.m., in the law school student lounge, entitled:  “Warranted but Precluded: The State of US Environmental Law.” All staff and faculty are welcome.

William Rodgers, Jr., is considered one of the founders of environmental law and is deeply respected as one of the nation’s foremost experts in the field.  Professor Rodgers received his BA from Harvard University and his JD from Columbia University.  He began teaching at the University of Washington School of Law in 1967, and spent seven years at Georgetown University Law Center, and returned to the UW in 1979.  In 1999, he was selected as the first UW Stimson Bullitt Professor of Environmental Law. 

Professor Rodgers is the author of several books on natural resources, climate change, and tribal issues, including the leading Hornbook on Environmental Law, the four-volume Treatise on Environmental Law, and Environmental Law in Indian Country.  He is the co-author of Climate Change: A Reader and The Si’lailo Way: Salmon, Indians and Law on the Columbia River.  He has also published numerous articles on topics such as climate change, natural resources damages, salmon issues, and the Endangered Species Act. 

Professor Rodgers’ courses have included Environmental Law, International Environmental Law, Climate Change and the Law, and US Ocean and Coastal Law, as well as seminars that focus on cutting edge environmental issues.
