Campus Phone Upgrade Coming Soon

Over the coming months, Lewis & Clark will be upgrading our campus phone system, transitioning from our traditional desk-bound phones to Zoom Phone.

Because so many of us already use the Zoom app daily for meetings and classes, this change will simplify our communications by bringing our phone lines right into the same familiar interface.

Why we are making this change

Our current campus phone system is aging and is costly to maintain. Moving to a modern, cloud-based system is a strategic investment that significantly reduces our long-term operating costs. By consolidating our voice and video into one solution, we used that leverage to manage costs while expanding our abilities. More importantly, it gives our community a much more flexible and reliable way to stay connected.

What to expect from Zoom Phone

The biggest benefit of this change is flexibility. Here is a look at a few features designed to make your daily work easier:

  • Keep your number: Your current L&C campus phone number will not change.

  • Work from anywhere: You can make and receive campus calls using your L&C number directly from your laptop or smartphone. No need to be tied to a physical desk phone to stay connected.

  • Voicemail to email: Voicemails will be automatically transcribed and sent to your L&C email inbox, so you can read them at a glance without having to dial in.

  • All-in-one app: Your calls, voicemails, and video meetings will all live inside the Zoom app you are already familiar with.

  • Seamless switching: You can move a live call from your laptop to your cell phone without hanging up, or instantly elevate a voice call into a Zoom video meeting.

  • Texting: You will be able to send and receive text messages using your college phone number directly through the Zoom app.

What happens next?

To ensure a smooth transition for everyone, the move to Zoom Phone will happen in gradual stages over the next few months. You do not need to take any action right now.

In the coming weeks, we will share specific timelines, information on training opportunities, and options for those who still require a physical desk phone.

We appreciate your patience and collaboration as we work to improve our campus tools. If you have any initial questions or thoughts, please feel free to reach out to buchwald@lclark.edu.
