You Otter Be Excited for New Wi-Fi Names
The Lewis & Clark Information Technology Infrastructure romp is otterly excited to announce new Wi-Fi networks in honor of Lewis & Clark’s River Otter mascot. You will see the new Wi-Fi networks beginning on June 29, 2026.
What’s Changing?
Following the successful launch of the River Otter mascot, and with the support of the Mascot Implementation Committee, we are launching new WiFi networks on Monday, June 29, 2026:
- OttSpot
- OttSpot Guest
- OttSpot Device
The existing PioNet, PioNet-Resident, and LC Guest networks will be retired on Monday, July 13, 2026.
- OttSpot provides secured Wi-Fi connectivity and internet access only. Please use your L&C account credentials to connect any device that can support OttSpot.
- OttSpot Guest provides unsecured internet access only. Students and employees should use OttSpot whenever possible for wireless internet access.
- OttSpot Device provides secured Wi-Fi connectivity and internet access only for any devices that cannot use OttSpot, like a PS5 or Smart TV. Only L&C account holders will be able to use OttSpot Device.
Note: This transition only impacts wireless connections. Connecting via a wired (Ethernet) connection will not be affected and will not require any action.
What You Need To Do:
For Students and Employees:
- It is best to use OttSpot for authenticated and encrypted access to the internet.
- If you have been using LC Guest in the past, please transition your devices to OttSpot when possible in order to avoid any disruption.
- Use OttSpot if you previously used PioNet-Resident.
- Use OttSpot Device to connect your PS5, Switch, Xbox, TV, speaker, or any other Wi-Fi device unable to connect to OttSpot.
- Find help and instructions on the Get Connected to OttSpot page on the IT website.
For Visitors and Guests:
- If guests require wireless access to the internet, please instruct them to connect to OttSpot Guest and follow the instructions provided.
- Connection instructions and suggestions for guides to include in signs, slides or visitor guides can be found on the Guest Wi-Fi Access page on the IT website.
