This year’s Distinguished Honors Dinner recognized alumni of the law school and members of the legal community whose impressive achievements and dedication to the legal profession and to serving and supporting the community inspire us all.

This year’s Distinguished Honors Dinner recognized alumni of the law school and members of the legal community whose impressive achievements and dedication to the legal profession and to serving and supporting the community inspire us all.

Rex Malott ’73, L ’76, earned the Distinguished Graduate Award with his extensive work in financial institutions— he survived both the S&L meltdown of the 1980s and the Great Recession of the late 2000s—and for his steady and generous support of the law school.

Lawrence Pittman ’18, earned the Community Spirit Award for his work as an Assistant Regional Counsel at the Environmental Protection Agency in Region 6 (Dallas) as well as his advancement of environmental justice.

Katie Kauffman ’12, received the Rising Star Award for her work as a criminal defense attorney. She’s known for taking on difficult cases from serious violent and sex offenses to homicides while maintaining her incredible ability to “leave it on the field.”


Two professors received the Honorary Graduate Award: Professor Henry Drummonds, who has taught torts, toxic torts, employment law and labor law, at L&C since 1989, and Professor Amy Bushaw, who has taught contracts and commercial law and sustainability and the law, since 1992.
