A Belonging Network Resource from the Office of Equity and Inclusion: Poetry Collection

This year has certainly been a whirlwind in higher education, bringing uncertainty and requiring many of us around campus, and the nation, to recenter on our core values and purposes. Recently, we’ve witnessed significant efforts at the national level impacting how higher education approaches DEI programs and representation. Sometimes, history can be a great teacher, so this month, we want to share a collection of poems from the Poetry Foundation: A Collection on Poetry and Racial Justice and Equality.

We offer these poems as an opportunity to pause during your busy day, to read something other than what is required, and be inspired to consider how examining the past can help us make sense of our present and shape our future. They may also provide insight for some of our present challenges around fostering belonging and creating inclusive campus cultures. If you have the time, please browse, reflect, and revisit.
