Jim Martin JD ’81 earned an appointment from President Obama to serve as a regional chief for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Regional administrators promote state and local environmental protection efforts and serve as a liaison to state and local government officials. They are tasked with ensuring EPA’s efforts to address the environmental crises of today are rooted in three fundamental values: science-based policies and programs, adherence to the rule of law, and transparency.
Last October, Martin was selected by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter to head the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. In giving his reason for choosing Martin, Ritter said then: “Jim has proven himself time and time again as a strong leader and innovative policy maker. His leadership style is one of consensus-building and problem-solving, and he has broad respect among stakeholders and a great record of public service.”
