Dear L&C community,
As we approach the end of the 2025–26 academic year, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the year and celebrate all you have achieved as individuals. It’s also worth noting all that we have accomplished in our collaborations together.
To those students graduating in a few weeks, I am sending you my heartiest congratulations. I hope that you take a moment to feel really proud. You will have achieved a significant milestone, ready to turn your purpose into practice and make the positive change you want to see in the world. I imagine it has not always been easy, but few things worth having are.
Lewis & Clark as an organization has achieved a few milestones to feel proud of as well. Our partnership with the Albina Vision Trust continues to develop. We recently secured a $1.5 million grant from the Mellon Foundation to support this critical work for years to come. The vision for the Environmental Innovation Center has come into sharper focus with an inaugural director expected to be onboard this summer. At the College of Arts and Sciences, the faculty approved a new data science major, and four new undergraduate minors in education, law and policy, AI, and cybersecurity. Inspired by the exceptional hands-on learning that is a hallmark of the Graduate School of Education and Counseling, and the Law School, the Career Accelerator is well on its way to ensuring career readiness is a truly distinctive feature of undergraduate education at Lewis & Clark.
None of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of Lewis & Clark’s exceptional staff and faculty, as well our incredible students who are at the heart of everything we do. Our caring community is what drives our college’s impact. It only happens because of all of you.
Whatever your summer holds, I hope you are able to take some time to rest, to reflect, and to connect with the people and places that inspire you—and that you inspire someone else in turn.
Sincerely,
Robin H. Holmes-Sullivan
