Animal law scholarships available to L&C law students

A generous, anonymous donor has established two animal law scholarships in honor of Professor Kathy Hessler and ALDF founder Joyce Tischler.

MUST BE A LEWIS & CLARK LAW STUDENT TO APPLY.

Kathy Hessler, Clinical Professor & Animal Law Clinic Director Scholarship
Awarded for the 2011-2012 Academic Year

Joyce Tischler Scholarship for Animal Law
Awarded for the 2011-2012 Academic Year

Amount of each scholarship:            $5,000

Criteria

  • Applicant is studying animal law.
  • Applicant is vegan.
  • Applicant has been vegan for at least one year prior to applying for the scholarship and pledges to remain so for at least one year after the scholarship is granted.
  • Applicant has chosen this dietary lifestyle because of his or her concern for animal rights.
  • Applicant does not use any products derived from living animals or fish or insects for clothing and for food (to the full extent that is possible/available).
  • Applicant plans to be an advocate for animal rights in his or her career.
  • Although financial need is not primary criteria, it will also be taken into account.

 Specific Application

A generous, anonymous donor has established two animal law scholarships in honor of Professor Kathy Hessler and ALDF founder Joyce Tischler. 

To apply, write no more than 500-700 words addressing the scholarship criteria and describing any activities that demonstrate your commitment to a career in animal law and why you have chosen to adopt a vegan lifestyle.

Scholarship Recipient Responsibilities

  • Attend the Friday, October 14, 2011, Animal Law Conference reception.
  • Attend the annual Lewis & Clark Law School Scholarship Recognition dinner to be held in April of 2012.
  • Write an acknowledgement letter to the donor.
  • Recipient agrees to provide an update on his/her academic career and/or post graduation accomplishments when requested by the development office.
