Expanding Opportunities Abroad

On May 14, Lewis & Clark Law School Dean Robert Klonoff was recognized by the Oregon Consular Corps (OCC) for his significant outreach to law firms, law schools, and public interest organizations overseas.

Dean Klonoff’s relationships with China, India, and Korea have opened opportunities for scholars to visit Portland to give speeches and teach seminars. In turn, faculty and law students at Lewis & Clark have been given opportunities abroad for internships and externships. Lewis & Clark offers a global law program and sponsors a global law speakers series that is open to the public.

In a video shown at the OCC Awards Dinner, Dean Klonoff discusses Lewis & Clark law students’ opportunities to gain experience from international externships.

“With the OCC’s interest in international awareness and education, we feel Dean Klonoff captures our ideals,” John Blackwell, OCC president, said. “He is invited to speak internationally and is a highly regarded scholar and practitioner on class action litigation.  He has appeared before the United States Supreme Court and is an author of the leading textbook on class action litigation. We are fortunate to have Dean Klonoff here in Portland and are pleased to honor him with this special award.”

This is the second time that a Lewis & Clark community member has been honored by the OCC. Karen Lickteig BA ’12 received a scholarship, allowing her to advance her studies in international affairs.
