U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp ’80 to be Commencement Speaker

About Lewis & Clark Law School’s Commencement
The Law School’s Commencement exercises will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Pamplin Sports Center on the undergraduate campus. The ceremony is approximately an hour and 45 minutes. No tickets needed. Reception with light refreshments at the law school following the ceremony.

About Heidi Heitkamp
Mary Kathryn “Heidi” Heitkamp JD ’80 is the second female U.S. senator from North Dakota, and the first to be elected by that state.Born in Minnesota, Heitkamp grew up in Mantador, North Dakota. She holds a BA from the University of North Dakota and a JD from Lewis & Clark Law School.
Senator Heitkamp took the oath of office on January 3, 2013. Heitkamp was North Dakota’s attorney general from 1993 to 2001.
Formerly the director of the Dakota Gasification Company’s synthetic fuels plant, Heitkamp has a long record in the energy industry. Much of her current work focuses on promoting North Dakota’s “all-of-the-above” energy plan. She sits on five Senate Committees: Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; Indian Affairs; Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
