The Original

October 10, 2010

  • News Image

The Original is a self-described classic diner with a modern twist. The glass and steel front capture the chrome and mirror feeling of an old school diner. The inside is modern, with comfortable seats, a wide and well stocked bar, and enough seating options to seat both small and large parties. There is additional seating upstairs than can also be used to host events.

There are six different menus, to accommodate customers during breakfast, brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner, and even a late night menu on Friday and Saturdays after 10 PM. The menus feature classic diner fare such as meat loaf and burgers, next to more atypical dishes like duck and kobe sirloin. There are specials, like a dog-of-the-day and a hard punch that varies by the day, at reasonable prices. The drink menu shows as much variety as the food, from the choice of wine to a selection of beers that even includes a $1 PBR draft at happy hour.

The Original is located at 300 SW 6th Ave, at the corner of SW Oak St in downtown Portland. It is accessible by the MAX and buses. The Original participates in the First Thursday monthly art walk, and carries Stumptown Roaster’s coffee and espresso.
