Ryan G. Vacca

Professor Vacca will be showcasing his most recent article on the work-made-for-hire doctrine in copyright law, which was selected as the winner of the University of Houston’s IPIL Sponsored Scholarship Grant for the Legal Academy.

Ryan Vacca joined The University of Akron School of Law in Fall 2010.  He currently teaches Copyrights, Trade Secrets, and Contracts.  Prior to joining Akron Law, Professor Vacca was a Visiting Professor at the University of Oregon School of Law and the University of Denver College of Law, where he taught the Intellectual Property Survey, Trademarks, Patents, Property, and Professional Responsibility.  He received his BA from Amherst College, his JD from the University of Missouri School of Law (Order of the Coif), and his LL.M. in Intellectual Property from New York University School of Law.  Professor Vacca focuses much of his research on intellectual property and has articles that have been published in the Albany Law Review, Missouri Law Review, Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal, Tennessee Law Review, Lewis & Clark Law Review, Southern Illinois University Law Journal, McGeorge Law Review, and the Journal of Dispute Resolution.  Before entering academia, Professor Vacca was an associate at the law firm of Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP in St. Louis, Missouri, where he specialized in intellectual property and products liability.
