Harpole Award and Scholarship

Dianna Gentry ’01 and Kelsey Benedick ’17 were honored at the 18th Annual Joyce Ann Harpole Awards presentation and reception. Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court Thomas Balmer served as the reception’s featured speaker.

The Harpole Award and Scholarship are presented each year to individuals who personify Joyce’s sense of professionalism and dedication to the pursuit of justice while maintaining a life balance that distinguished her within her personal and professional communities. Nominated by their peers, the recipients reflect Joyce’s compassionate spirit and delight for life.

Gentry, recipient of the Harpole Attorney Award, is a sole practitioner working in criminal defense. According to Laura Forester, who nominated Gentry for the award, “She has touched and improved the lives of countless people: her family, friends, clients, and community.”

Benedick, recipient of the Joyce Ann Harpole Memorial Scholarship, has worked on Lewis & Clark Law Review and serves as cochair of the Crime Victims’ Rights Alliance. In her nomination statement, Kate Edwards described Benedick as “the kind of person who inspires others around her to do well also.”
