Professor and former Dean Bob Klonoff recently provided written testimony as an expert witness in a class action settlement in the BP oil spill litigation. The settlement resolved claims of thousands of injured individuals and businesses against defendants Halliburton and Transocean.

The lawsuits were originally filed in 2010 after the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling rig  explosion and fire in the Gulf of Mexico. The incident resulted the death of 11 workers, and thousands of others suffered personal injuries, real property damages, and business injuries. More than four million barrels of oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico, making it the largest oil spill in history.

In his opinion, federal district judge Carl Barbier cited and quoted Professor Klonoff’s testimony numerous times. Ultimately, Judge Barbier found that the settlement was fair, reasonable, and adequate.
