A longtime supporter of the law school, Matt Bergman ’89 established the Bergman Family Scholarship this May, on the occasion of the graduation of his daughter, Madeline Bergman ’19.

Bergman was on stage to present his daughter with her hood at this year’s commencement ceremony as a surprise to Madeline.

“Matt has been a steadfast champion of the law school, and I know he is especially proud of his daughter’s achievements here,” said Dean Jennifer Johnson. “The Bergman Family Scholarship will give students who need financial support the ability to attend law school and fulfill their dream of becoming a lawyer.”

Bergman was the recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Award in 2009 and is a member of both the Lewis & Clark Board of Trustees and the law school’s Board of Visitors.

Following law school, Bergman spent two years as law clerk to Judge Baldock of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. In 1997 he formed Bergman Draper & Frockt, which is now the preeminent plaintiffs asbestos law firm in the Pacific Northwest.
