What the world needs most is what we do best.

And what we do next depends on you.

The world’s most pressing problems call for good leaders.

Law school is an ideal environment to hone analytical skills, but Lewis & Clark doesn’t stop there. Our students, equipped with both knowledge and expertise, become alums who promote positive change: protecting consumers, defending animals, ensuring justice, and advocating for our planet. We could not train the leaders of tomorrow without the foundational support of our donors today.

This Advocate is a tribute to the contributions of our donors, and the outsized impact their gifts continue to have on our students, faculty, and programs.

The accomplishments of the 2020–21 academic year are highlighted along with the donations that made them possible. Six categories form the framework for the campaign at Lewis & Clark Law School. The campaign, the first in 20 years, seeks to raise $40 million by 2024. To date, we are halfway there and look forward to exceeding our goal. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Truly, what the world needs most is what we do best—and what we do next depends on you.

Support Students, the Leaders of Tomorrow

Students come to our law school full of dreams of becoming an attorney, being a change-maker, contributing to their community, supporting their families—in short, making a difference with their knowledge, grit, and dedication.

Donors play a significant role in helping students realize their dreams of becoming a lawyer and making a difference by supporting them through endowed and annual scholarships, fellowships, mentorships, and more.

Train Climate Change Leaders

No matter how you measure it, the climate crisis is the most formidable problem of our time—and it is one that will affect every single person on the planet. The world urgently needs thoughtful, informed leaders who can meet the challenge.

Donor gifts that support the Environmental Law Program as well as its faculty and clinics secure the continued development of leaders who are advocating for policies and practices to halt and, we hope, ameliorate the worsening global crisis.

Support Business Innovation

The innovative spirit within every successful business depends on solid legal foundations and discriminating advice.

Gifts to the Business Law Program and its Center for Business Law and Innovation, the faculty, and clinics prepare leaders to serve as effective counselors for business ventures.

Improve Criminal Justice

The inequities of our criminal justice system are becoming progressively more apparent. Yet, even as society begins to examine these issues, the work to address the imbalances remains as daunting as ever.

Donations to the Criminal Law Program, faculty, and clinics underpin the education and training of future leaders who are needed to engage in step-by-step change.

Protect Animals

Even as society recognizes animals as sentient beings, the laws determining their treatment continue to vary radically. How can we best provide meaningful protection for all animals?

Donations secure the training of the next generation of animal law attorneys and advance animal protection not only in the United States, but around the world.

Support Outstanding Faculty

Faculty are the foundation of Lewis & Clark. Their knowledge, diligence in both research and teaching, and heartfelt commitment to the success of every law student make our law school the unique place it is.

Supporting faculty through an endowed chair, professorship, or faculty scholar position provides a transformational impact for generations.
